In a quest for household harmony, an older cat named Frank decided it was time to teach a lesson to the mischievous kitten, Whelan, who loved leaping onto the countertops.
This is a common scenario in many homes where feline friends often climb to high places, either to survey their kingdom or to sniff out a snack. Aware that counter-surfing is frowned upon, Frank sprang into action.
With the family’s pet camera rolling, Frank joined Whelan on the countertop, swiftly taking charge by grabbing the kitten’s scruff—much like a scene from The Lion King. He playfully carried Whelan around, pondering how to dismount safely.
Realizing he had been caught, the little kitten went still, knowing it was better to take the reprimand from his sibling than face the wrath of their humans.
A video posted on August 20 by user @frankandwee humorously noted: “Frank is always left on babysitting duty.”
After contemplating his next move, Frank opted for a gentler approach rather than a harsher one, attempting to jump down with Whelan. However, it wasn’t the most coordinated attempt.
The Instagram clip recorded an impressive 5.6 million views, alongside 560,793 likes and numerous comments praising Frank’s parenting skills. One user humorously remarked, “Upholding the laws and regulations – example citizen,” while another suggested giving him a raise.
One comment even highlighted Frank’s gentle method, stating, “At least he tried to gently take him down vs grabbing him and throwing him off.”
Tips to Keep Cats Off Counters
As many cat owners know, felines don’t always listen to authority figures; they act like they own the place. So, what can you do to keep your cat off the counters?
Catster offers several strategies, including using aluminum foil on countertops or applying sticky tape to make the surfaces less inviting. Another trick is to use a citrus-scented spray to deter them.
Also, try to keep cats in another room while cooking to minimize temptations, and always make sure to clean up any food scraps after you’re done to prevent counter surfing.
