A heroic English bulldog named Maverick is battling for his life after bravely defending his family from a rattlesnake in southern Arizona. During a playful day in the garden, Maverick was bitten twice by a western diamondback rattlesnake, while his sibling Finley, a Merle Frenchie, suffered a single bite but is recovering well.
Finley responded quickly to medical treatment, making significant strides by the end of his first day at the vet. Unfortunately, Maverick’s recovery has been a tougher journey as he deals with the aftermath of two bites to his face.
“They spent a day and a half in the hospital before heading home to recover,” their owner shared, expressing heartache over the ordeal. “We’re focused on preventing infections at the bite sites, which were left with funnel-shaped holes from the venom.”
This dramatic incident has gone viral on TikTok, showcasing the dogs’ recovery as they wear protective neck braces and bandages. The video features an emotional recounting of that fateful morning when both dogs were attacked. “We rushed them to the emergency vet for antivenom and blood transfusions,” their owner detailed.

Despite undergoing rattlesnake avoidance training, Maverick instinctively defended his family, which also includes another sibling named Peach, who escaped unharmed.
“These bites can be life-threatening,” their owner emphasized. “Quick action is crucial. Always take your dog to the vet immediately if bitten, as early antivenom treatment can significantly increase survival rates.” With the right care, dogs have an impressive 80 to 90 percent chance of survival.
The owner’s swift action in getting Maverick and Finley to the vet within 30 minutes greatly helped their recovery. “We’re heartbroken but hopeful for good news,” she told viewers. “Maverick has shown such loyalty and protectiveness.”
