Adam Kinzinger, a former representative, lashed out at Lilly Gaddis, a TikToker, calling her “spoiled” on Wednesday. This came after Gaddis faced backlash for using a racist slur and eventually losing her job.
Gaddis’ cooking video, where she used a racial slur while discussing immigration, sparked controversy. Following the video going viral, Gaddis was let go from her position as a sales and marketing manager at Rophe, a North Carolina company owned and operated by a Black woman. The company made a public statement denouncing Gaddis’ remarks and confirming her departure.
Rophe swiftly addressed the situation, emphasizing that Gaddis’ actions did not align with the company’s values. Gaddis’ TikTok account was deleted, but she defended her stance on her Twitter account, receiving support from right-wing influencers.
Kinzinger condemned this support, labeling Gaddis as “spoiled” for avoiding consequences. The former Illinois Republican congressman, who chose not to seek reelection in 2022 due to his party’s direction, highlighted the lack of accountability.
Mike Harvey, a Democratic candidate, echoed Kinzinger’s sentiments on social media, emphasizing the problematic behavior of those who evade responsibility for their actions.
Despite facing heavy criticism online, Gaddis doubled down on her stance in a video apology, stating that the backlash did not change her views.
Rophe reaffirmed its commitment to diversity, emphasizing its dedication to creating an inclusive work environment.
