Conservative Leader Criticizes Lauren Boebert’s Plan: Calls it “Fiscal Malpractice”

A conservative leader strongly criticized a plan put forth by Colorado Republican Representative Lauren Boebert, labeling it as “nothing short of fiscal malpractice.”

David Jenkins, the president of Conservatives for Responsible Stewardship, penned an op-ed in the Colorado Gazette expressing his disapproval of a resolution introduced by Boebert and Wyoming Republican Representative Harriett Hageman. The resolution centers around the “Bureau of Land Management’s final Fluid Mineral Leases and Leasing Process rule,” according to Boebert’s office.

Jenkins wrote in his op-ed that the rule targeted by Boebert and Hageman includes bonding reform aimed at tackling the issue of abandoned oil and gas wells that are imposing significant costs on taxpayers. He criticized the lawmakers for siding with industry entities engaging in questionable practices and attempting to enable them to continue exploiting taxpayers. Jenkins emphasized the importance of supporting fiscally responsible reforms to prevent tax burdens from escalating.

Boebert and Hageman introduced the resolution in May, seeking to disapprove of the Bureau of Land Management’s rule on “Fluid Mineral Leases and Leasing Process.” Their resolution aims to invalidate the rule entirely.

Boebert, upon announcing the resolution, condemned what she perceived as excessive regulations targeting the oil and gas industry, asserting that such regulations could harm small businesses and lead to higher gas prices. She argued that the U.S. is a leader in emissions reductions due to technological advancements in oil and gas production and highlighted the importance of maintaining affordable energy sources.

Jenkins continued his critique in the op-ed, accusing Boebert of prioritizing the interests of special interest groups over taxpayers. He labeled her actions as emblematic of “swamp politics,” stating that they contradicted conservative principles.
