Democrat Candidate Vows to Clean House in Mark Robinson’s Office

North Carolina State Senator Rachel Hunt, a Democrat, is making waves as she campaigns to replace Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson. In a recent political ad, she claimed she would use bleach to clean his office once elected.

Robinson, who is a Republican, is simultaneously running for governor against North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein. Meanwhile, Hunt is gearing up for her matchup against Republican nominee Hal Weatherman in the lieutenant governor race this November.

In an ad shared by Weatherman on social media, Hunt goes to a cleaning supplies closet, pulling out a gallon of hydrogen peroxide while stating, “And since I’m moving into Mark Robinson’s office, I’ll start with a gallon of this.”

The ad opens with a voice-over questioning, “Who’s worse than Mark Robinson? His choice for lieutenant governor, Hal Weatherman,” while criticizing Weatherman’s stance on women’s rights and abortion.

“I’m Rachel Hunt. As lieutenant governor, I’ll tackle extremism in state government,” she declares, brandishing the cleaning product.

Weatherman responded on X (formerly Twitter), referring to Hunt as a “white liberal Democrat” and highlighting her comment about using bleach to clean the office once occupied by Robinson, who is Black.

Robinson echoed this sentiment, suggesting that the media would not address the racial implications of Hunt’s comments and urged against allowing divisive rhetoric to influence voters. “Election Day is coming, and we the people are ready for a better and brighter tomorrow,” he added.

Robinson, who has the backing of former President Trump, recently faced scrutiny following a CNN report claiming he made inflammatory comments on a pornography site years ago, including referring to himself in troubling terms, which he has denied.

Hunt countered Robinson’s claims by sharing the CNN report, listing points such as antisemitism, racism, and sexism, and asserting that “there’s a lot to clean up.”

Robinson’s Controversial Past

Despite his anti-transgender rhetoric, Robinson reportedly said on the pornography site that he enjoyed transgender content. He has described his past behavior in a troubling light, citing experiences from his youth.

During a recent rally, Robinson claimed, “We’re going to protect our women,” while advocating for controversial policies surrounding transgender individuals.

Robinson referred to the allegations as “salacious tabloid lies,” maintaining that such statements do not reflect his character. His spokesperson emphasized that the accusations against him are either fabrications or exaggerated misrepresentations.

As the election approaches, both parties are bracing for a heated battle, with Hunt and Robinson at the center of the evolving political landscape in North Carolina.
