Following an assassination attempt on Saturday where a bullet grazed his right ear, a doctor expressed concern that Donald Trump is now “vulnerable.”
Dr. Houman Hemmati shared his thoughts with Fox News regarding Trump’s speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Thursday night. He noted Trump’s unusual decision to promise not to discuss the shooting further.
“President Trump has never shied away from repeating himself in the past, so his silence on this matter is telling,” Hemmati remarked. “It’s rare to see him so openly affected, indicating that he is truly grappling with it.”
Dr. Hemmati suggested that Trump may be experiencing “survivor’s guilt,” questioning why he survived when others did not during the attack by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks.
Trump, at the RNC, paid tribute to volunteer firefighter Corey Comperatore, who heroically sacrificed his life to protect his family by shielding them. Trump displayed Comperatore’s uniform and even kissed his helmet on stage.
Reflecting on Trump’s emotional state, Hemmati shared on Fox News, “He’s grappling with the notion that he shouldn’t have escaped harm, questioning why fate spared him.”
Formally accepting the Republican presidential nomination just days after the incident, Trump recounted his harrowing experience, stating, “The bullet came dangerously close to ending my life.”
Describing the chaotic events, Trump highlighted the instant protection offered by his Secret Service agents, concluding, “I felt secure, believing God was watching over me.”
In a moment of humility, Trump acknowledged, “I’m standing here tonight because of God’s mercy. Many view this as a miraculous intervention.”
