Recent polls suggest that Donald Trump‘s legal woes might impede his 2024 presidential aspirations.
In the latest poll numbers, Biden seems to have a slight edge over Trump with less than five months remaining until the election.
Biden Leads in Swing States
A recent CBS News/YouGov poll shows Trump barely ahead of Biden nationwide (50% to 49%).
However, in crucial swing states like Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, Biden has a lead over Trump (50% to 49%).
This poll surveyed 2,063 U.S. adults from June 5-7, shortly after Trump’s recent legal troubles in New York.
In addition to the swing states mentioned, the survey included a sample from Arizona, with margins of error at 3.2 points for all adults and 3.8 among voters.
Trump Trailing Among Independent Voters
In the same CBS News/YouGov poll, Trump falls slightly behind Biden in support among independent voters, a pivotal demographic.
Biden attracts more independent voters than Trump, with analysts noting some independents are anti-Trump and support Biden to counter him.
Another poll by Yahoo News/YouGov found 41% of independents leaning towards Biden, while only 38% support Trump. Ten percent are unsure, and 11% did not vote in the previous election.
Independents’ votes in swing states can significantly impact the outcome of the election.
Biden’s Poll Numbers on the Rise
In the Yahoo News/YouGov Poll, Biden’s 46% overtakes Trump’s 44%, marking the first time Biden has led since October 2023.
These results indicate Trump’s legal troubles could sway voters away from supporting him in November.
Biden Gains Trust on Economy
Recent polling by the University of Michigan Ross School of Business shows an increasing number of Americans trust Biden with the economy, narrowing Trump’s lead from 11 points in February to only four by June.
The economy is a top concern for voters, and Trump’s slipping poll numbers on this front could spell trouble for his campaign.
