During the Republican National Convention (RNC), Eric Trump hinted at his potential political ambitions on Tuesday.
This announcement came just before his father, former President Donald Trump, officially became the GOP presidential nominee, and a day after the selection of Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate.
Conservative media personality Benny Johnson asked Eric Trump, in the presence of bio-tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, if he was disappointed about not seeing Vivek debate Vice President Kamala Harris for the VP role.
Ramaswamy, who initially ran against Trump in the primary elections before endorsing him, was among the speculated names for Trump’s VP candidate.
“I am,” Eric Trump acknowledged. “I would love to see my man right here as my running mate in 2032,” suggesting his own potential presidential candidacy in the future. He added, “I would love to see him debate Kamala.”
The choice of 2032 as the year for Eric Trump’s potential presidential run remains unclear since if Donald Trump were to win a second term, he would leave office in early 2029 and be unable to run again in 2028.
Although Eric Trump has actively participated in his father’s presidential campaigns, his background lies more in business than politics. He serves as the executive vice president of The Trump Organization, his father’s real estate business, alongside his older brother, Donald Trump Jr. The business faced scrutiny during Donald Trump’s civil fraud trial in New York, which concluded earlier this year.
Eric Trump was the one to officially nominate his father as the GOP’s presidential nominee at the RNC, following the casting of Florida’s delegate votes, securing Trump the required 1,215 delegates for the nomination.
“On behalf of our entire family and the 125 delegates from the incredible state of Florida, we proudly nominate each and every one of them for the greatest president to have ever served, Donald J. Trump, officially declaring him the Republican nominee for the President of the United States of America,” Eric Trump declared alongside other Trump family members.
Lara Trump, Eric Trump’s wife, assumed the role of co-chair of the RNC in March.
