On a recent episode of Gutfeld! on Fox News, panelists took aim at journalist Don Lemon for his mocking reaction to Melania Trump’s video about the assassination attempt on her husband, former President Donald Trump.
Melania shared a heartfelt video on X, discussing the distressing events of July 13, when a shooter targeted her husband during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. In her message, she also questioned why the Secret Service didn’t apprehend the shooter before the incident occurred.
In response, Lemon, previously of CNN, posted a now-deleted video where he rolled his eyes and made faces while watching Melania’s clip. His reaction quickly drew strong backlash from social media users, with many deeming it “sick.”
On his show, Greg Gutfeld slammed Lemon’s reaction as “gruesome” and “callous,” suggesting that if a Republican had mocked President Biden after a serious incident, there would be significant consequences.
Kayleigh McEnany, a guest on the show and former White House press secretary, agreed, stating that Lemon’s antics have shifted from “unintended satire to just being mean.” She pointed out that Melania learned of her husband’s shooting in real time and found Lemon’s response to be particularly cruel.
Kat Timpf, another panelist, expressed confusion as to why Lemon would ridicule a woman’s emotional response to her husband’s near-death experience, asserting that such feelings shouldn’t be controversial for anyone.
Gutfeld joked about Lemon’s thought process, quipping that it’s difficult to gauge someone with so little thought put into their actions. He added that sometimes people need producers to help prevent such missteps, a sentiment echoed by Dana Perino, who suggested that Lemon’s solo act makes him come off poorly.
In closing, Gutfeld humorously remarked that if left unchecked, Lemon might end up in the emergency room due to his miscalculations.
