Kamala Harris’ campaign has criticized Donald Trump after he launched an attack on the vice president during a campaign speech in Minnesota.
Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, referred to Harris, the likely Democratic nominee for the upcoming election, as a “radical left lunatic,” describing her as “evil” and “unhinged” in his 90-minute address in St. Cloud on Saturday.
He alleged that Harris would implement liberal immigration policies if she wins the Oval Office and also made fun of her laugh and proposed policies.
In response, Harris’ spokesperson, Sarafina Chitika, released a statement claiming that it was Trump who appeared “unhinged.”
“Tonight in Minnesota, a bitter, unhinged, 78-year-old convicted felon continued to propagate lies about the ‘rigged’ 2020 election, rambled about his predecessor and golfing, and gave excuses for avoiding a debate with Vice President Harris. Donald Trump warned that if he loses, the country is ‘finished.’ Yesterday, he also claimed that our democracy would be at its end if he wins,” the statement read.
Trump’s address in Minnesota highlights the state’s significance in his campaign strategy. Chris LaCivita, a senior advisor for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, expressed confidence in expanding the campaign’s reach in the state, aiming to potentially win support there.
Current polling data from aggregator FiveThirtyEight suggests an even split in support between Democrats and Republicans in Minnesota.
Notably, Minnesota has consistently favored Democratic presidential candidates since 1972, with a key exception being Richard Nixon’s victory. Even in 2016, despite Trump’s success in other Midwestern states, Minnesota narrowly favored Hillary Clinton.
During the event, Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, accused the media of misleading the public about Harris, drawing boos from the crowd. Vance criticized the media for likening Joe Biden to Abraham Lincoln in the past and now equating Harris to Martin Luther King Jr.
“We all know she’s not MLK, just as Joe Biden was not Abraham Lincoln,” Vance stated, labeling Harris as a member of the “San Francisco Lunatic Fringe.”
Following Biden’s endorsement of Harris, both Vance and Trump have intensified their criticism of her, setting the stage for continued attacks as the election approaches in three months.
