Vice President Kamala Harris faced tough questions regarding immigration policies during a recent interview on CBS’ “60 Minutes.” Correspondent Bill Whitaker scrutinized the Biden administration’s border security methods, particularly recent policy changes that have led to a noticeable drop in border crossings.
Whitaker pointed out a significant surge in undocumented arrivals during the first three years of Harris’s term, suggesting it quadrupled compared to the last year of the Trump administration. He asked, “Was it a mistake to loosen immigration policies?”
In her defense, Harris said, “It’s a longstanding problem. And solutions are at hand. From day one, we have been offering solutions.” She highlighted the administration’s recent success in reducing illegal immigration and fentanyl flow by half, urging Congress to take action on a comprehensive immigration reform.
However, Whitaker pressed on, asking if initial policy decisions allowed the surge to happen. Harris reiterated the need for congressional cooperation, blaming past opposition from Donald Trump for stalled progress on border security measures.
Interestingly, Trump, who has been vocal about his hardline immigration stance, did not participate in the “60 Minutes” segment, canceling after showing initial interest.
During a recent rally, Trump and Ohio Senator JD Vance accused the Biden-Harris administration of unlawfully facilitating immigrant entry. Vance stated, “An illegal action by Kamala Harris does not make an alien legal.”
