Vice President Kamala Harris has made headlines with a significant endorsement from a prominent Republican family.
Barbara Pierce Bush, daughter of former President George W. Bush and granddaughter of George H.W. Bush, has publicly supported Harris during her campaign in Pennsylvania, a key state for the upcoming election.
“I was thrilled to join the Harris-Walz campaign and engage with voters this weekend in Pennsylvania,” the 42-year-old nonprofit leader shared with People on Tuesday. “I believe they will help advance our country and safeguard women’s rights.”
Interestingly, her parents, George and Laura Bush, have opted not to endorse any candidate for the 2024 election, having expressed their preference for a write-in candidate back in 2016.
Despite leaning independent since 2010, Barbara has not shied away from her pro-choice stance, echoing the views of her mother. Back in 2017, she actively supported Planned Parenthood for its comprehensive approach to women’s health.
This election cycle, abortion rights have taken center stage after the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022, pushing Democrats to focus on this issue while accusing Republicans of trying to impose stricter bans.
Barbara isn’t the only figure from her father’s political circle to endorse Harris. Dick Cheney, Bush’s former vice president, surprised many by expressing his intention to vote for Harris last month, joining over 200 former Bush staffers in their support. His daughter, Liz Cheney, has also campaigned with Harris.
Additionally, Susan Ford Bales, daughter of President Gerald Ford, showed her support for Harris last week, stating, “While we might not agree on every issue, I appreciate her integrity and commitment, which align with the values my father upheld.”
