Kari Lake, the Arizona Republican candidate, is experiencing a boost in her Senate campaign as a recent poll indicates a competitive race for the now-open seat previously held by independent Senator Kyrsten Sinema.
Commissioned by the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), the internal poll conducted by Peak Insights from July 31 to August 5 reveals that Lake and Democratic Representative Ruben Gallego are tied at 46 percent among 800 likely voters, with 8 percent undecided. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
This poll comes as a positive development for Lake, who has been lagging behind Gallego in other public polls. For instance, aggregators like The Hill and RealClearPolitics show Gallego leading by margins of 5.8 percent and 4.4 percent respectively.
Democrats currently hold a 51-49 majority in the Senate, which could shift depending on the outcome of the November elections.
Lake’s campaign highlighted Gallego’s progressive stance, criticizing his alignment with policies they associate with Vice President Kamala Harris and the Biden administration. The campaign asserts, “Donald Trump and Kari Lake will secure the border and get the economy back on track. Arizonans know this.”
In the Democratic realm, Gallego is building bipartisan support with the launch of “Republicans and Independents for Ruben,” a coalition of Arizona Republicans and independents that includes various community leaders and elected officials who endorse him.
In terms of recent electoral history, Lake previously ran an unsuccessful gubernatorial campaign in 2022, losing by over 17,000 votes, a result she has yet to publicly accept. She has also been an outspoken proponent of Trump’s disputed claims regarding the 2020 election.
Lake secured the Republican nomination in late July, winning over Sheriff Mark Lamb with over 55 percent of the vote, while Gallego ran uncontested in the Democratic primary.
