Lauren Boebert Aims to Head Key Federal Agency with Trump’s Support
During the Republican National Convention (RNC), Representative Lauren Boebert of Colorado expressed her desire to lead one of the most vital agencies under former President Donald Trump if he wins the upcoming election in November.
Boebert believes she is well-suited to serve as the secretary of the interior in a potential Trump administration. The secretary of the interior is currently held by Deb Haaland, the first Native American to serve in a cabinet position.
When questioned by Native Voice One in Milwaukee about the ideal candidate for secretary of the interior if Trump is re-elected, Boebert replied, “I think Lauren Boebert needs to be secretary of the interior. President Trump, I would like to be secretary of the interior.”
Highlighting the significance of the agency, Boebert emphasized her passion for public lands. She mentioned her time spent on tribal lands with Mountain Utes and Southern Utes, underscoring the importance of energy production for these communities.
Describing herself as pro-fossil fuels, Boebert raised concerns about the impact of closing coal-fired energy plants on tribal lands. She advocated for oil and gas drilling as an alternative, despite concerns about the environmental impact on nearby communities.
Contrasting wind turbines with oil and gas drilling, Boebert argued for the latter as a cleaner and efficient way to utilize natural resources, dismissing renewable energy sources as harmful to vital species.
While acknowledging President Joe Biden’s focus on combating climate change and promoting clean energy, Boebert’s stance aligns with utilizing existing resources for energy production.
