Former President Donald Trump’s visit to Arlington National Cemetery has sparked strong backlash from retired U.S. Navy veteran, Brad Berkwitt. He labeled Trump a “treasonous traitor” and criticized the decision that allowed him to attend the ceremony.
Berkwitt, who hosted The ‘Bad’ Brad Berkwitt Show, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his outrage in a heated video, filled with explicit language, about Trump laying a wreath at the cemetery. He noted, “As a veteran who served for 20 years, I am beyond furious! Who in the hell allowed Trump to be here today?”
His frustration was palpable as he elaborated on Trump’s controversial legacy, especially regarding the events of January 6, 2021, and various legal troubles. “This treasonous traitor has no right to desecrate the memory of our fallen soldiers,” he asserted vehemently.
Others in the veteran community joined in voicing their disapproval of Trump’s attendance, with one post highlighting past derogatory comments Trump made about veterans. “He refuses to show respect when it matters most,” they stated.
Trump’s appearance on August 26 marked three years since the 2021 Abbey Gate bombing during the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, which claimed the lives of 13 U.S. service members. The Biden administration, including Kamala Harris, also remembered the fallen, calling them “devoted patriots.” Harris defended the decision to withdraw from Afghanistan amidst criticism, stressing the sacrifice made by those lost.
Trump himself took a jab at the Biden administration’s handling of the withdrawal, labeling it “the most embarrassing moment in our country.” This event continues to highlight the complexities of Trump’s relationship with the military and veterans, reflecting ongoing tensions as the 2024 presidential race heats up.
