One in Four Republicans Favor Kamala Harris’ Campaign, New Poll Reveals

A recent poll indicates that approximately 25% of Republicans hold a favorable view of Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign.

This comes after President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race on July 21, following a series of debates with former President Donald Trump that raised questions about his leadership. On the day he stepped down, Biden extended his endorsement to Harris.

In the ABC News/Ipsos survey conducted from August 23 to 27, 24% of Republicans expressed positivity towards Harris, while a notable 93% of Democrats and 56% of independents shared similar sentiments regarding her campaign.

In contrast, Trump’s campaign enjoys the support of 79% of Republicans, with 38% of independents and 13% of Democrats viewing it positively.

Overall, 56% of participants in the poll rated Harris’ campaign as excellent or good, compared to 41% for Trump.

The survey included 2,496 adults, with a balanced representation of 29% Democrats, 29% Republicans, and 30% independents, and a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.

How Are Americans Planning to Vote?

When asked about their voting preferences, 50% of all adults surveyed indicated support for Harris, while 46% favored Trump. This trend holds true among registered voters, although Harris slightly increases her lead to 52% among likely voters compared to Trump’s 46%.

An Outward Intelligence poll conducted between August 25 and 29 shows Harris ahead by 5 points (52.6% to 47.4%). This poll included a sample of 2,191 likely voters and has a margin of error of 2.1 percentage points. However, a poll by RMG Research from August 26 to 28 shows a tighter race, with Harris at 50% and Trump at 47%, maintaining a 2-point margin of error.

How Are the Candidates Doing in Swing States?

It’s crucial to remember that national polls reflect general sentiment but don’t determine the election outcome due to the Electoral College system, which requires a candidate to accumulate 270 electoral votes to win. Therefore, polling in key battleground states is particularly significant.

According to the latest update from the Silver Bulletin Presidential Model, Harris leads Trump in several swing states: Michigan (48.3% to 46.4%), Pennsylvania (48.2% to 46.9%), Georgia (48.3% to 47.4%), Wisconsin (49.4% to 46.2%), and Nevada (48.6% to 47.7%). Conversely, Trump holds narrow leads in North Carolina (48.4% to 48%) and Arizona (48.5% to 47.9%).
