Recent polls following the debate between JD Vance and Tim Walz depict a favorable view of both vice presidential candidates among voters.
A CBS and YouGov survey indicated that opinions were nearly split, with 42% believing Vance won the debate compared to 41% for Walz. Both candidates saw an increase in favorability post-debate: Walz’s ratings jumped from 52% to 60%, while Vance’s rose from 40% to 49%.
Seventeen percent of voters viewed the debate as a tie, and an impressive 88% appreciated the overall positive tone of the discussion.
The poll also revealed that a majority found both candidates reasonable, with 74% expressing that sentiment about Walz and 65% about Vance. Interestingly, this CBS YouGov poll contrasts with an instant CNN poll, which placed Walz’s favorability at 59% and Vance’s at 41%, within a 5.3-point margin of error.
Despite some discrepancies in numbers, both polls align in showing that each candidate gained support and were viewed as capable of stepping into the presidential role if necessary.
Reader Allyson Wood commented: “JD Vance was succinct and enthusiastic, showing respect throughout the debate.” In contrast, some viewers felt Walz demonstrated superior experience and authenticity. Reader Jennifer K Thessin noted, “Walz was the most authentic, speaking truthfully about pressing issues.”
The debate’s influence on voter decisions appears limited, as CNN reported that only 1% of viewers changed their minds about their choices because of it.
