Recently in Columbus, Ohio, a large American flag was overshadowed by a Trump 2020 flag, triggering a wave of criticism.
Preferred Living, a luxury apartment developer, switched the American flag and a smaller Italian flag at a Franklin Township intersection with a Trump banner, as reported by the Columbus Dispatch. This move sparked negative reactions, resulting in poor Google reviews and complaints from nearby residents.
Lizzie Jackson, a resident near the flag display, expressed her displeasure to the Dispatch, saying, “I hate having to direct people, ‘Turn left at the massive Trump flag’.”
One reviewer on the issue mentioned, “I find it offensive and disrespectful to our country and its residents.” The American flag, being a symbol of unity for all Americans, should overshadow political affiliations.
Residents at Belmont House in the Hanover Park apartments next door received an email from Preferred Living over the weekend, acknowledging the complaints. The company clarified that the flag was erected by the parcel owner, and they are dedicated to providing a peaceful living space.
Reddit users also shared videos of the divisive flag, bearing slogans like “Make America Great Once Again” or “Trump-2024”.
One user wrote, “As long as it isn’t displayed like that, what happens in their rooms shouldn’t matter.”
Another person remarked, “It’s revolting.” Your home should be a place of comfort, irrespective of political beliefs. “Preferred Living is responsible for the nearby flagpole, and this is unacceptable to me.”
It appears Preferred Living has a history of using banners for political statements. In 2020, they unfurled a giant American flag on a construction site in protest against COVID restrictions.
