Trump’s 2011 Debate Remarks Resurface to Bite Him

Donald Trump’s 2011 comments about politicians dodging debates are resurfacing, thanks to CNN and Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign. In a clip from Imus in the Morning, Trump criticized those who avoid debates, labeling them as “cowards” and claiming that effective presidents need the courage to engage in such discussions, particularly when negotiating with China.

Fast forward to 2024, and Trump is now hesitant to agree to a second debate against Harris. The @KamalaHQ account on X (formerly Twitter) shared the vintage clip, pointing out Trump’s own words about debate courage and fitness for leadership.

In 2011, Trump was expected to moderate a Republican primary debate organized by Newsmax. He expressed disappointment when Congresswoman Michele Bachmann announced she would not participate, stating, “It’s unbelievable!” Meanwhile, Bachmann and fellow candidate Rick Perry both opted out, and shortly after, Trump backed out of the debate himself, so it never occurred.

While Trump remains dismissive of further debates, Harris has accepted invitations for two upcoming debates, one on CNN and another on Fox News. Trump, however, insists he won’t participate in what he calls a “third debate,” confidently stating on Truth Social, “THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!”
