Jerry Jones, the iconic owner of the Dallas Cowboys, has forged an exciting partnership with IndyCar and motorsport tycoon Roger Penske to launch the IndyCar Arlington Grand Prix in the 2026 season.
This collaboration also involves the Texas Rangers and will take place at the bustling Texas Live! complex in Arlington. The race will feature a 2.73-mile street circuit, making it the longest on the IndyCar calendar. This initiative aims to infuse fresh energy and economic growth into Texas’s racing landscape.
Jones and Penske’s partnership is rooted in a long-standing relationship dating back to 2006, when Penske was pivotal in bringing the Super Bowl to Detroit. Jones considers Penske a mentor, particularly in leveraging sports for robust economic benefits. He remarked:
“Roger has been a model for me in transforming competitive racing into a successful economic engine. He changed the narrative about where major events should be held.”
This enduring bond has set the stage for this ambitious racing venture.
Boasting a challenging track layout with 14 twists, a dual pit lane, and a distinctive horseshoe-style carousel, the IndyCar Arlington Grand Prix is poised to be a significant highlight in the IndyCar roster. The circuit also features captivating views as it flows beneath hospitality suites, with a .9-mile straightaway likely reaching speeds over 180 mph.
The event’s promotion kicked off alongside the 2024 NFL matchup between the Cowboys and the Lions, strategically leveraging football’s popularity to generate buzz for the race. Fox Sports, IndyCar’s latest broadcast partner, will further expand the promotional reach.
The partnership announcement was a grand affair, highlighted by appearances from Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, the Texas Rangers’ Six Shooters Squad, and celebrated athletes like Hall of Famers DeMarcus Ware and Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez, as well as IndyCar champions Alex Palou and Josef Newgarden.
Newgarden expressed excitement regarding the race, stating:
“As a kid dreaming of becoming a race driver, I envisioned winning iconic events like the Indianapolis 500. I believe the Grand Prix of Arlington will become one of those must-win races each year. It’s a privilege to race in Arlington alongside brands as legendary as the Cowboys and Rangers.”
Jones is optimistic about the turnout: “Expect a strong crowd; we’ll ensure that everyone knows about this race.”
Penske shared his views on the collaboration, saying:
“Combining the Cowboys and Rangers with our series brings immense credibility. Jerry has constructed a major enterprise here, and being part of his team will elevate us to new heights.”
