Michael Jordan, a legendary name in sports and business, has recently acquired a customized Gulfstream 650ER private jet, with a price tag of around $70 million.
This private jet is a top performer in the aviation world, known for its remarkable speed and expansive range. Capable of covering around 8,630 miles without needing to refuel, it allows for non-stop trips from the east coast of the U.S. to destinations like Tokyo.
Jordan’s Gulfstream is uniquely designed to reflect his impressive basketball legacy. It sports a stunning $500,000 custom silver-and-black paint job inspired by his elephant-print sneakers. Plus, the Jumpman logo—the face of his Air Jordan brand—graces the tail of the aircraft.
The tail number, N236MJ, has special significance: “23” corresponds to his iconic jersey number, “6” represents his six NBA championships, and “MJ” stands for his initials.
But it’s not just about luxury; functionality is key. The jet is powered by two Rolls-Royce BR725 engines and can reach speeds close to Mach 1. Inside, it boasts lavish leather seating for up to 19 passengers, coupled with a four-member crew for superior comfort. Additional amenities include a private dining area, a fully stocked bar with LED lighting, and a private bedroom.
However, operating such a high-end jet comes at a cost, with estimated expenses around $1.9 million annually for around 200 flying hours, covering fuel, crew salaries, and insurance. This expense is palatable for Jordan, who enjoys a net worth of approximately $3.5 billion.
Jordan is also known for his love of luxury cars, recently adding a $2 million Italian sports car to his collection.
On the real estate front, his expansive Illinois mansion, first put up for sale in 2012 at $29 million, has reportedly begun the selling process after multiple price cuts, now listed at $14.855 million. The current selling price remains under wraps.
In addition to these pursuits, Jordan is involved in a legal battle with NASCAR. His team, 23XI Racing, has filed an antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR, claiming several anti-competitive practices.
“As everyone knows, I’m a fierce competitor, and that drive to win motivates me and the entire 23XI team every week on the track,” Jordan stated. “I love the racing sport and the passion from our fans, but NASCAR’s current operations are unfair to teams, drivers, sponsors, and fans.”
“Today’s actions show I’m committed to fighting for a competitive landscape where everyone benefits.”
