Jeremy Clarkson, the well-known former Top Gear host, has expressed worries about his future health after facing some serious medical issues.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, he remarked, “I don’t have long. I’ve probably only got what, 70,000 hours left, maybe?”
His latest health scare began while on holiday in the Indian Ocean, where Clarkson experienced clamminess, chest tightness, and pins and needles in his arm. Upon his return to the UK, he was hospitalized at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
Doctors found that one artery to his heart was blocked, and another was on the verge of obstruction. They managed to insert a stent to remedy the situation, which Clarkson described as “not particularly painful—just strange.”
In his column for The Sunday Times, he recounted a moment at breakfast where he had to check if his limbs were functioning properly. He shared the ominous prospect of needing an emergency heart bypass but was relieved when it was decided a stent could be inserted instead.
Before this incident, Clarkson had attempted to adopt healthier habits, even attending an alcohol-free retreat in Portugal. Unfortunately, a strict juice diet led him to become ill, resulting in another hospital visit due to an abscess on his back.
Beyond these physical challenges, Clarkson has also voiced concerns about potential dementia, particularly due to hearing loss. He explained the strain on his brain as it tries to compensate for lost audio, saying: “My brain is having to use a huge amount of computing power trying to fill in the bits of speech it hasn’t been able to hear.”
Despite these health hurdles, Clarkson remains active in his work. He is busy filming the fourth season of his Amazon series, Clarkson’s Farm, and continues to manage his pub, the Farmer’s Dog in Asthall, along with other projects, including his role on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”
