Joey Logano Calls for Track Cleanup After Watkins Glen Fiasco

Joey Logano didn’t hold back his frustration after a tough race at Watkins Glen International. He described the track conditions as a “complete disaster” following a collision during the 83rd lap of the Round of 16 in the 2024 Cup playoffs.

While driving the No. 22 Ford, Logano attempted a risky maneuver that resulted in a three-wide situation with Brad Keselowski and William Byron, ultimately leading to a wreck where Byron’s front tire got stuck in Keselowski’s car.

Logano took responsibility for the incident, stating, “I needed to check up more but the track’s a complete disaster. I got pushed four-wide at one point, and I got into the marbles.” He elaborated, “When I turned left, I had junk all over my tires and ended up hitting him.” Via Bob Pockrass

Logano expressed that his frustrations weren’t just a knee-jerk reaction, asserting, “I brought it up multiple times about cleaning the track before restarts, but that didn’t happen.”

William Byron faced significant consequences from the wreck, finishing in P34. Thankfully, he had managed to secure some stage points earlier, providing a bit of cushion for the weekend’s disappointing result.

After the race, Byron shared his thoughts: “I was trying to get to the outside of the No. 22, and the No. 6 hooked back to the left. Glad we scored some points in Stage two.” He added, “Now we just need a solid performance at Bristol after this nightmare weekend.”

Reflecting on his mistake, he admitted, “I got a bit loose and clipped the inside wall—just driver error. I’m gutted, as it was an amazing race with good battles at the end.” Via Motorsport.com
