Lewis Hamilton Responds to Adrian Newey’s Decision to Turn Down Ferrari F1 Team

Adrian Newey’s recent announcement to join Aston Martin instead of Ferrari next season has triggered quite a buzz in the Formula 1 community. Lewis Hamilton, set to transition from Mercedes to Ferrari, and current Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc have both weighed in on Newey’s choice.

Newey, widely regarded as one of the best engineers in F1 history, confirmed last Tuesday that he will leave Red Bull to take up a role at Aston Martin starting in March of next year. This news came after discussions with Ferrari that ultimately didn’t lead to a contract.

When asked about his feelings regarding Newey joining a rival team, Hamilton was refreshingly candid.

“Honestly, no,” he responded when questioned about any disappointment, per ESPN. “It would have been an honor to work with Adrian, but I’ve already succeeded with other championship-winning teams without him. My focus remains on my goals for the next season, and I believe we have a lot of potential.”

Leclerc echoed Hamilton’s sentiments, expressing respect for Newey’s choice. “There’s no disappointment here. We tried engaging him, but in the end, he made his decision, which I completely respect,” he said.

“Ferrari has always prioritized teamwork over individual contributions. While Adrian boasts an incredible track record, we have a fantastic team in place, and I’m confident in our ability to reclaim our position at the top,” Leclerc added.

He went on to support team principal Fred Vasseur, saying, “It’s his job to ensure we’re in the best spot to compete for race wins. I have 200% faith in Fred’s vision and the direction we’re headed.” Leclerc emphasized the importance of ongoing improvement, expressing his enthusiasm about the team’s progress.

Newey’s expertise will undoubtedly be a huge boost for Aston Martin, particularly with their significant investment in facilities. The year 2026 could be pivotal for the Silverstone team. Meanwhile, Ferrari’s commitment to its solid structure and Vasseur’s leadership suggests that they remain firmly in the hunt for championship glory.
