In an exhilarating finish, Tyler Reddick snagged a remarkable victory in the Straight Talk Wireless 400 at Homestead-Miami, guaranteeing himself a spot in the NASCAR Cup Series Championship 4, set to take place on November 10 in Phoenix.
23XI Racing co-owner and NBA icon Michael Jordan was on hand at Reddick’s pit stall, sharing both excitement and anxiety as he observed the dramatic moments that led to the win. Post-race, he shared his thoughts with NBC Sports, stating, “I almost thought we were gonna run out of gas. We knew we needed a caution at the end, and anything could happen after that.”
He continued, “Denny was up there, and the young kid drove really well. I’m proud of him. He just went for it, and we needed it.”
Coming into the race 30 points under the cutline, Reddick faced immense pressure to perform. With the stakes high, a timely caution caused by Kyle Larson’s spin kept Reddick within striking distance. During the final restart, he battled tough competitors Denny Hamlin and Ryan Blaney, both on fresher tires. However, in a remarkable final lap maneuver, Reddick overtook them, clinching the win and his shot at the championship.
Reflecting on his performance, Reddick told the media, “I was backed into a corner and had no other choice. I knew being on a tire deficit at Homestead was tough, but I just went for it. We did what it took to win this race and fight for a championship.”
He added, “I just knew I needed to get beside him cleanly, and he raced me fair. I’m really excited to have a shot at the championship.”
