NASCAR driver Matt Mills experienced a dramatic moment during the Baptist Health 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway when he was involved in a serious crash with competitor Connor Jones.
Fortunately, Mills managed to exit his truck after the incident, but he was taken to the hospital for evaluation, as reported by FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass:
“Matt Mills being taken to hospital. Obviously he got out of his truck after the fire and hard hit. Jones declined comment after the race.”
Before the crash, Jones had voiced his frustrations over his racing experience in Miami, expressing his anger over the situation through team communications: “I’m getting f***ing run over, left and f***ing right. I’m done.” This outburst preceded the collision with Mills.
Following the incident, NASCAR officials acted quickly, handing Jones a two-lap penalty which significantly impacted his chances of placing well in the race.
As of now, there are no new updates on Mills’s condition.
This incident comes just a month after Mills signed a contract for the 2025 season with Niece Motorsports. He expressed his gratitude for the continued support from sponsors:
“I’m extremely fortunate to have people like JF Electric and Utilitra on board. It’s been a fun journey with Niece Motorsports, and I aim to build on that as we head into next season.”
Mills added, “I’m thankful for the opportunities I have, and I appreciate Niece Motorsports for believing in me. It’s a dream come true to race for them and Al Niece, and I’m excited to finish the year strong and prepare for next year.”
Niece Motorsports GM Cody Efaw also shared his thoughts on Mills’s contribution to the team:
“Matt has been a valuable addition this year. He came in with a fresh mindset, and the Truck Series has taught him a lot. He’s learning what he needs from his truck, and I believe we have a great year ahead.”
