NASCAR Speedway Announces Major Renovations Following Hurricane Milton’s Impact

The renowned Daytona International Speedway has recently completed significant repairs following the destruction left by Hurricane Milton.

As a primary venue for major NASCAR events like the Daytona 500 and Coke Zero Sugar 400, the Speedway is vital to motorsport enthusiasts everywhere.

The hurricane caused notable erosion near Turn 4, affecting a stretch roughly 100 yards wide, which necessitated prompt action to sustain the safety and integrity of the track.

According to Ken Willis from the Daytona Beach News-Journal, the damaged area has now been restored.

He mentioned, “We had to remove a significant amount of grass to lay down leveled soil, which has now been equipped with new sod. We even addressed a small area outside Turn 3 that also needed repairs.”

Hurricane Milton’s impact reached beyond the Speedway, with Volusia County experiencing severe disruption, leading to evacuation orders for vulnerable residents and halting beach access.

The storm left many without power, but local officials collaborated with Florida Power & Light to restore electricity quickly. The Speedway stepped up as a hub for emergency responders and utility crews during this critical time.

Similarly, the NASCAR community rallied to support those affected by the hurricane. The Atlanta Motor Speedway opened its grounds to evacuees, offering free camping options for RVs and tents as well as access to shower facilities. In their announcement, they stated:

“In partnership with Henry County EMA, we are providing dry camping free of charge for those impacted by Hurricane Milton.”

AMS’s Executive Vice President and General Manager, Brandon Hutchison, remarked:

“Our thoughts are with those affected by Hurricane Milton. It’s essential for us to assist when natural disasters strike our communities. We have the space to help, and we’re ready to welcome those in need.”
