What better vibe to tap into for a baby shower than the beloved moms we’ve seen on-screen?
A viral Instagram video by Danica Cauffield (@danica.cauffield) showcases just that. Cauffield and her friends donned outfits inspired by iconic fictional and real-life mothers, from pop stars to sitcom characters, garnering over 167,000 likes.
“POV: You threw an ‘iconic moms’ themed baby shower with your besties,” Cauffield captioned the video, showcasing their creative flair.
The costume reveals were varied and impressive. Cauffield rocked a red boiler suit as a pregnant Rihanna from the 2023 Super Bowl, complete with high heels and a microphone. Another friend channeled the iconic Peggy Bundy from Married…With Children, sporting red locks, a stylish belt, and cheetah pants.
Other recognizable characters included Moira Rose from Schitt’s Creek and Regina George’s mom from Mean Girls, complete with a camcorder referencing the notorious Christmas talent show scene.
Comments exploded with admiration for the group’s creativity, sparking debates on which moms could have made the cut. Suggestions for iconic additions included Kris Jenner and Morticia Addams.
Baby Showers on the Rise
Despite being a traditional celebration, baby showers remain a popular way to celebrate impending parenthood. As Cauffield demonstrates, personalizing themes can add a fun twist! In a January 2023 YouGov survey of 1,000 U.S. adults, baby showers were ranked the sixth most popular social event.
Results showed that 65% of respondents had attended one, with 22% attending in the last year. While women (80%) were more likely than men (50%) to participate, the importance of these events for expecting mothers is clear.
Overall, most Americans have a favorable view of baby showers, with only 16% expressing dislike for attending them.
