Even after five years, this resilient dog is still hoping to find a loving home. She not only conquered cancer but also overcame the heartache of being abandoned by her previous owner.
Kina found herself at Pet Rescue Solutions in South El Monte, California in 2019, starting a long journey in search of a forever home.
Though another dog found a family within a week, Kina was left behind, which left her feeling very sad.
Despite witnessing many furry friends find homes over the years, Kina remains patient and optimistic at Pet Rescue Solutions.
Various factors can impact a dog’s chances of being adopted from a shelter. According to a 2012 study published in the journal Animals, the top reasons for adopting a pet include their appearance, social interaction with the owner, and the animal’s personality.
Rainwater, a caregiver at the shelter, attributes Kina’s extended stay to her size and certain behavioral issues. With time, Kina has mellowed down, but she still requires a considerate and patient adopter.
Despite her past struggles, Kina has found happiness in the shelter, cherishing simple pleasures like snoozing on her bed, receiving treats, and playing with a water hose.
Senior dogs like Kina often face challenges in finding forever homes. According to the Petfinder Adoption Data Study by Priceonomics, only about 68.2% of senior dogs listed on the site find permanent placements, compared to 95% for puppies.
Despite the odds, Rainwater remains committed to finding Kina a special person who can offer her the loving home she deserves, preferably a quiet environment without other pets to ensure she feels at ease.
Rainwater’s hope is that one day, Kina’s dream of a forever home will become a reality.
