Christian Horner from Red Bull Racing has acknowledged issues with the RB20 suspension affecting performance on kerbs, first noticed at the Monaco Grand Prix and continuing at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.
The trouble stems from the clash between aerodynamics and suspension setup. While rigid suspension aids downforce, it reduces compliance, making the ride harsh and unstable over bumps, particularly on quick circuits.
Despite these challenges, Red Bull is determined to resolve the suspension woes without compromising efficiency. However, a quick solution seems unlikely, as Horner discussed the car’s performance at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve:
“The car must be able to handle kerbs and the aerodynamic platform.”
Max Verstappen also weighed in on the issue, noting that the problem was less severe in Canada due to track conditions. He expressed hope for a solution to maintain performance:
“The races this past weekend were tough. We need to tidy things up,” he remarked.
Dealing with the bumps and kerbs has been challenging. Verstappen believes significant improvement is feasible once they address this issue:
“I think we can resolve this without altering other aspects of the car. We’ve been tirelessly working on finding a fix as it’s a significant performance constraint for us.”
“Looking forward to tracks with fewer kerbs and bumps will be a relief for us,” he added.
It’s fascinating to witness certain teams excel on different tracks each weekend.
