Adam Schefter announced the extension on X. The Steelers have extended Tomlin’s contract for three more years, taking it through the 2026 season, marking his 20th year with the team.
Comparatively, John Harbaugh has been coaching the Baltimore Ravens for 16 years.
Tomlin guided the Steelers to the playoffs in his first season in 2007, where they were unfortunately eliminated by the Jaguars in the wild-card game.
In 2008, the Steelers returned to the playoffs and emerged as Super Bowl champions by defeating the Arizona Cardinals. Tomlin has since led the team to two Super Bowl appearances.
Throughout his coaching career, Tomlin has seen the Steelers make 11 playoff appearances with an overall record of 181-110-2. His .621 winning percentage ranks 12th all-time among coaches with at least 10 seasons of experience.
Recognized as a professional in his field, Tomlin’s coaching style, while more old-school, has yielded undeniable results that speak for themselves.
Despite being in the league for 13 years and counting, Tomlin’s consistent performance has ensured the Steelers maintain a winning record.
Amidst new signings like Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Patrick Queen, and cornerback Donte Johnston, the Steelers are striving to find balance under Tomlin’s guidance, aiming for success in the AFC.
If they fall short, the three-year extension of Tomlin’s contract may face scrutiny, but the Steelers remain optimistic about their future.
