CM Punk Reveals Who He Thinks Will Be John Cena’s Last Opponent in WWE

2025 is shaping up to be a significant year for WWE as John Cena gears up for his retirement tour. The fan-favorite “Doctor of Thuganomics” is set to say farewell while taking on both old rivals and emerging talents, marking the end of an era in wrestling.

One of Cena’s most iconic rivalries was with CM Punk, which delivered some unforgettable matches. Nearly 11 years after their last showdown, Punk shared his thoughts on who could be the one to close the book on Cena’s storied career.

In a recent chat with 1035 KISSFM, Punk displayed a thoughtful approach when asked about Cena’s final match. “Oh gosh. I’d have to ask John,” Punk remarked. He praised Cena for making his retirement announcement a shared journey for fans and himself, calling it a way to offer a ‘love letter’ to wrestling.

That said, Punk was open to the idea of a match with Cena. “If he wants to get in the ring with me, I’d be flattered, but if not, that’s cool too. I’ll just be a fan watching,” he said. Punk also mentioned other wrestlers he felt could step into the ring with Cena for his farewell, like Randy Orton or potentially someone new to pass the torch to, like Gunther.

While fans can likely expect to see Cena face Orton during this farewell tour, a match against Gunther could elevate the latter’s status as one of WWE’s top villains, making it an intriguing prospect as the wrestling world prepares to bid farewell to Cena.
