The Connecticut Sun announced on Monday that they have parted ways with head coach Stephanie White, adding her departure to the growing list of coaching vacancies in the WNBA.
Connecticut Sun President Jen Rizzotti expressed gratitude towards White, saying, “We want to thank Stephanie for her contributions over the past two seasons and wish her the best in the future.”
White described her decision to leave as one rooted in both personal and professional considerations.
“Leaving Connecticut was tough, but I believe it’s the right choice for my family and career,” White shared with ESPN. “This organization has meant so much to me, and I am truly thankful for the support from Jen and the team. However, I must prioritize being closer to my family.”
Currently, White is a top candidate for the head coaching position with the Indiana Fever, who recently let go of their coach, Christie Sides.

The Sun aims to fill White’s position in the upcoming weeks as they gear up for the 2025 season.
“Our main goal is to establish some stability during this uncertain time in the WNBA,” Rizzotti remarked to ESPN. “We need a strong leader who can guide us forward and adapt to possible roster changes while maintaining competitiveness.”
Rizzotti also commented on job security within the league, stating, “There’s a perception of instability in the WNBA, but that’s not true in Connecticut. We want to create an environment where we can develop the roster and program effectively.”
The issue of job security has been underscored by Sides’ recent firing, which occurred despite her having two years left on her contract.
