Dustin Poirier, a veteran and former UFC champion, has been teasing his retirement ever since his defeat by lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. Following that match, he hinted at stepping away from the octagon soon.

Joining Helwani again, Poirier provided updates about his retirement fight and its potential location.
When asked by Helwani about his retirement, Poirier confirmed he isn’t ready to quit just yet. “I will fight again; it’s just a matter of timing. It could be uno mas or dos mas. I had a productive meeting at UFC headquarters,” he shared.
Poirier expressed a desire to have his retirement fight in Louisiana, either in Lafayette or New Orleans, where his career began. “My goal is to take my gloves off in Louisiana and retire at home,” he stated.
While it’s a priority for Poirier, arranging an event can be tricky since the UFC often schedules events a year in advance. Nonetheless, Poirier remains determined.
Adding an intriguing twist, he revealed his wish to face top-tier competition for his last bout, mentioning Justin Gaethje as a potential opponent. With both fighters tied at 1-1 in their previous matches, a trilogy showdown could be a fitting finale for Poirier.
He also underscored that if he secures the Louisiana event, he will retire shortly afterward, although he is open to fighting two more times if necessary before that happens.
No matter what comes next for Poirier, his legacy in the UFC is already solidified.
