The 2024 U.S. Open women’s draw has just been announced via the tournament’s official Twitter/X account!
Top-seed Iga Świątek leads the field and is joined by notable players like world No. 6 Jessica Pegula and No. 11 Danielle Collins from the U.S. Other competitors include No. 16 Liudmila Samsonova, No. 18 Diana Shnaider, and rising star, 17-year-old world No. 21 Mirra Andreeva, all from Russia, along with No. 25 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and No. 31 Katie Boulter from England.
Świątek, 23, is on the hunt for her second U.S. Open title and her sixth Grand Slam overall. She claimed her first U.S. Open win in 2022 against Ons Jabeur, and since 2020, has racked up four French Open titles, including three consecutive wins since 2022.
With career earnings over $31 million, Świątek is already among the top ten highest-paid female athletes in tennis history.
In the second bracket, world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka faces tough competition, particularly from world No. 7 Zheng Qinwen, the Olympic gold medalist. Other challengers include world No. 12 Daria Kasatkina, No. 14 Madison Keys, and No. 24 Donna Vekić.
Due to the withdrawal of No. 17 Ons Jabeur, world No. 34 Elise Mertens will step in to replace her in Sabalenka’s bracket, as reported by Adam Zagoria of Forbes. Sabalenka, who recently made it to the U.S. Open final but fell short against Coco Gauff, is eager for a strong performance this time around.
Defending champion Coco Gauff, only 20, aims to protect her title following a successful Grand Slam season so far, including reaching the semifinals at the Australian Open and finishing as a finalist at the French Open, where she lost to Świątek. Gauff also snagged her first Grand Slam doubles title at the French Open this year with partner Katerina Siniaková.
In her bracket, Gauff will be joined by world No. 8 Barbora Krejčíková (this year’s Wimbledon champion), world No. 9 Maria Sakkari, and up-and-comers like No. 13 Emma Navarro and No. 19 Marta Kostyuk.
Victoria Azarenka, a former world No. 1 and two-time Australian Open champion, hopes to claim her third Grand Slam as the current No. 20 seed.
The bracket grouping featuring world No. 4 Elena Rybakina will also see competition from world No. 5 Jasmine Paolini, No. 10 Jeļena Ostapenko, and No. 15 Anna Kalinskaya, along with other notable players like No. 22 Beatriz Haddad Maia and No. 30 Yulia Putintseva.
Lastly, former Australian Open champion and world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki returns to the U.S. Open after a brief retirement. With a history of U.S. Open finals in 2009 and 2014, she’s looking to finally secure her first title here.
