Kevin Owens Sparks WWE Controversy, Ignites AEW Contract Speculation

In the world of modern wrestling, storytelling has been revolutionized, especially with the rise of social media, allowing rivalries to reach new heights. A notable example of this shift is the ongoing feud between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre, which has captivated fans as one of the year’s most compelling narratives.

Now, Kevin Owens is stepping into the spotlight, taking a similar social media-driven approach in his ongoing conflict with WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.

The tension between Owens and Rhodes has been simmering, with Owens choosing honor over underhanded tactics time and again. However, everything changed at Bad Blood 2024 when Rhodes collaborated with Roman Reigns to take on Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu of The Bloodline. Following the event, Owens unleashed his frustrations on Rhodes, a moment quickly caught on fan video.

Since that incident, Owens has tried to clarify his actions but faced interference from his tag team partner, Randy Orton. Taking to social media, Owens expressed his grievances with both Rhodes and WWE.

“Since Bad Blood, many have questioned my actions toward Cody,” he shared on X. “I’ve faced a lot of judgment, but WWE has prevented me from explaining my side.”

He continued, stating, “Instead of allowing me to speak, they tried to silence me, telling me to stay home from SmackDown last week. When I showed up anyway, they cut my mic to stop me from talking.”

Owens also mentioned a video he created for Raw that ultimately didn’t make it to air, although WWE seemed happy to showcase Rhodes. He gave WWE until Friday to air his video or else he would release it himself.

Despite word from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful about WWE’s interest in offering Owens a new contract, it’s rumored that AEW might extend a lucrative offer should he become available.

Interestingly, sources suggest that Owens is leaning closer to signing with WWE, according to wrestling insider WrestleVotes. “I haven’t received a definitive answer, but I’ve heard positive feedback that a deal might be near completion,” they reported.
