WWE Welcomes Beloved Veteran Wrestlers to NXT!

NXT has emerged as one of WWE’s standout success stories in recent years.

Initially launched as a reality show, NXT has evolved into a platform for aspiring wrestlers, turning out major stars like Rhea Ripley, Bianca Belair, Bron Breakker, and even Roman Reigns.

However, it’s not uncommon for seasoned wrestlers to join NXT as well. This brings us to WWE’s latest acquisition.

Reports from PW Nexus have indicated that Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley, known collectively as the Motor City Machine Guns (MCMG), have signed with WWE and are expected to join NXT when it launches on CW.

This was later confirmed by Mike Johnson of PWInsider and Fightful Select. Shelley even shared (then deleted) a post on X featuring the NXT theme song.

Sabin began his career in 2000, while Shelley debuted in 2002. They formed MCMG in 2006 and quickly made their mark.

Since 2007, they’ve competed in various promotions, including Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), and Ring of Honor (ROH), securing tag team titles along the way.

The duo also made an appearance in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) at All Out, where they teamed up with Jay Lethal in a six-man match, though they came up short against Wardlow and FTR.

Individually, both Sabin and Shelley have held the TNA/Impact X Division Championship as well as the TNA Heavyweight/Impact World Championship.

Although it’s intriguing to have such a renowned tag team in WWE’s NXT, it raises eyebrows to see them in a developmental setting.

WWE has a history of placing established talents in NXT; for instance, Shinsuke Nakamura joined the brand after a legendary career in NJPW, later becoming a beloved NXT Champion before moving up to the main roster, where he collected multiple titles.

MCMG’s addition could significantly bolster WWE’s tag team division, which could use the boost right now. It would be fantastic to see them showcase their talents on the main roster sooner rather than later.
