Unpacking the Mystery of Nova H1 Audio Earrings and Online Conspiracy Theories Around Kamala Harris

A new conspiracy theory is making waves on social media following the recent Trump-Harris debate. This theory claims that Kamala Harris was sporting concealed earphones disguised as pearl earrings during the event.

According to these claims, Harris was wearing the Nova H1 Audio Earrings, a product from a German startup called NOVA Products. The debate, which took place on September 10 at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, was hosted by ABC News.

The Nova H1 earrings, as described on their Kickstarter page, are designed to be clipped onto the earlobes, directing sound from inside the pearls straight into the ear canal. Each earring is equipped with high-end microphones that provide clear audio for phone calls and reduce wind noise.

Launched at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January 2023, these Bluetooth earrings boast ‘directional sound,’ ensuring that any audio remains private—only the wearer can hear it.

This isn’t the first time that hidden communication theories have surfaced during presidential debates. Similar accusations were made against Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign, particularly following a forum called the Commander-in-Chief Forum. Claims circulated that Clinton was seen wearing an earpiece, but fact-checkers from PolitiFact and Snopes dismissed these allegations.

In the run-up to the 2020 election, claims also emerged that Joe Biden used a hidden earpiece during a debate with Trump. However, Biden’s campaign labeled these assertions as “completely absurd,” and the Commission on Presidential Debates clarified that earpieces are not allowed.

A quick search reveals that the Nova H1 Audio Earrings are currently unavailable for purchase, as NOVA Products’ website redirects to Icebach Sound Solutions. Additionally, backers on Kickstarter have been left waiting for their orders for over a year, with no updates since May 2023.
