A recent in-flight experience took an unexpected turn for a traveler when he discovered a new twist on in-flight entertainment.
Meet Jeffrey, a 36-year-old from Sydney, who was on a Qantas Airways flight from Brisbane to Sydney. Instead of a typical screen embedded in the seat, he was greeted by an iPad designed for entertainment.
Jeffrey took to Reddit to share his surprise, posting a picture of the iPad neatly tucked into the seat in front of him. He also included images showcasing the array of movies available for viewing.
“I got into a Brisbane to Sydney flight today and remembered a post about the A330 [airliner] lacking screens. Every seat now has iPads,” Jeffrey wrote.
He continued in the comments, mentioning, “They instruct passengers to stow the iPads in the seat pockets during takeoff and landing.”
A Qantas spokesperson confirmed this, stating, “[It] has been this way for many years. The iPads come fully loaded with entertainment options.”
Qantas, Australia’s largest airline, has been serving passengers both domestically and internationally, flying to destinations including the U.S., U.K., and various Asian countries. In 2023, Qantas carried a staggering 45.63 million passengers.
The Reddit community reacted with mixed feelings. User u/AgreeablePudding9925 remarked, “Is this your first time? They’ve had this on select flights for years,” while u/dreamthiliving appreciated the convenience of iPads, especially for families, noting their flexibility in use. However, not everyone was a fan, as user u/duckiest commented, “This is the worst.”
