Matt Gaetz, a Republican from Florida, and Jim Jordan from Georgia clashed over a motion to subpoena Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg.
The House Judiciary Committee, on Thursday, held a hearing where Republicans wanted to investigate Bragg’s case against Donald Trump in 2016 regarding hush-money paid to Stormy Daniels.
Gaetz, at the start of the hearing, moved to summon Bragg and Assistant District Attorney Matthew Colangelo.
When Jerry Nadler objected, calling the motion “ridiculous” since Bragg and Colangelo agreed to appear on July 12, Jordan disagreed.
In response, Gaetz refused to retract his motion, insisting on a vote or a motion to table it.
Despite Jordan’s attempts to prevent a vote, the hearing was adjourned shortly after. Gaetz then retracted his motion.
Trump was recently convicted in Manhattan of falsifying financial records tied to an alleged affair with Daniels in 2006. Trump has appealed, denying the affair and any wrongdoing, labeling the case as politically motivated.
Many Republicans, including Jordan, have criticized Bragg for his handling of Trump’s case, questioning its political motivation and calling for further investigation.
