Hey candy lovers, heads up! There’s been a nationwide recall on over two dozen candy products since they may be contaminated with the salmonella bug. It’s not something you want in your sweet treats!
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued the recall for various candies like caramel pretzels and cookies, sold in stores like Walmart, Hy-Vee, Dollar Central, and Target—basically places we all shop at!
Salmonella is no joke; it can give you symptoms like diarrhea, stomach cramps, and fever. It usually doesn’t last long, but for some, it can be pretty serious, especially for the elderly and those with weaker immune systems.
The whole shebang started when Hy-Vee had to recall some products due to this issue. The FDA even labeled the recall as a Class I, which means it’s bad news potentially. Luckily, no one got sick from the Hy-Vee items.
The Palmer Candy Company, behind the recalled candies, found out that an ingredient from a supplier could be tainted with salmonella. They’ve halted production for now as they and the FDA dig deeper to find the root cause.
If you’ve picked up any Palmer Candy Company items listed below, return them to the store for a full refund. Got questions? Call the company at 1-800-831-0828, Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
