Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of Bill and Hillary Clinton, recently took to social media to poke fun at Donald Trump Jr. following a tabloid report about her ambitions for an ambassador role. On Friday, the New York Post reported, citing anonymous sources, that Chelsea was eyeing a position as the U.K. ambassador or another role in France if Vice President Kamala Harris wins the 2024 election against Donald Trump.
A source claimed, “There’s a reason why Bill and Hillary came out in the first five minutes to support Kamala’s presidential bid—they were currying favor,” according to the New York Post.
Trump Jr. shared his astonishment over the story on social media, complete with eye-roll emojis. Chelsea responded by calling out Trump Jr. for buying into the tabloid’s claims and expressed her hopes for Harris’s success in the upcoming election.
She quipped, “Must be the same people who said I would run for Congress, get married years before I actually did, and have an alien sibling,” and added how excited she is about the prospect of Harris as president while continuing to call New York City home.
A British embassy official suggested that while the U.K. ambassadorship might be on Chelsea’s wish list, she may still be considered too junior for such a role; these appointments often go to major donors or fundraisers. Chelsea has experience in the U.K., having previously studied at the University of Oxford.
However, a friend of the Clintons refuted the claims that their support for Harris was linked to Chelsea’s ambitions, stating, “There is no truth here. Chelsea is proud to support Vice President Harris and is committed to doing everything she can to ensure she is elected in November.”
If Harris secures the presidency, she would be the first female U.S. president, a milestone that eluded Hillary Clinton. Additionally, she would make history as the first Asian president and only the second Black president in the nation’s history.
