Mark Martin, the 32-year-old grandson of Justice Clarence Thomas‘ sister, revealed to Business Insider that he has had no contact with Justice Thomas and his wife, Ginni Thomas, who raised him from 1997 to 2010.
Martin mentioned that he has tried reaching out to them to no avail. Justice Thomas once referred to Martin as their “son” in a 2007 C-Span interview, highlighting the close bond they shared.
Martin’s revelation coincides with scrutiny Justice Thomas faces for trips funded by Republican donor Harlan Crow. Thomas and his wife reportedly took trips paid for by Crow over two decades. Thomas defended the trips, citing a long-standing friendship with Crow.
Commenting on the situation, George Conway expressed concerns about Justice Thomas’ finances. Martin referenced Crow’s ties to Randolph-Macon Academy as a potential reason for Justice Thomas’ actions.
