Donald Trump has criticized Virginia GOP Congressman Bob Good for showing support for former President George H.W. Bush ‘too late’.
Trump expressed his disappointment with Good on Truth Social, calling him “BAD TO VIRGINIA & BAD TO THE USA” and reaffirming his support for John McGuire in the Republican Primary.
Good had previously endorsed Trump’s primary opponent, Ron DeSantis, but switched his allegiance to Trump after DeSantis dropped out. Good praised Trump, calling him “the greatest President of my life” and pledging to reinstate successful policies.
Good’s alliance switch not only caused a rift within the GOP but also among supporters of the Make America Great Again movement. The political action committee supporting Republican election victories has spent over $450,000 in Good’s campaign.
Trump endorsed McGuire, emphasizing that Good was too late in showing support for him and the movement. McGuire, a Navy Seal and respected legislator in Virginia, is backed by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, another Trump supporter.
Trump announced a “TeleRally” on June 17th, the night before Virginia’s 5th District GOP primaries, to support McGuire. Good’s office has been contacted for comment.
Trump has highlighted his successful track record of endorsing winning candidates in elections, with most endorsements going to favored incumbents.
In recent elections, two candidates endorsed by Trump were defeated. This indicates some fluctuations in his endorsement success rate.
Surveys in Virginia’s 5th Congressional District show McGuire leading Good by 10 points in one poll and Good leading McGuire by 9 points in another, indicating a tight race.
