Donald Trump’s ex-communications director has advised Vice President Kamala Harris to stay vigilant, even as new polls show her gaining traction against the former president in key battleground states.
Since kicking off her 2024 campaign in late July, Harris has been buoying her party’s chances, especially after President Joe Biden’s drop-out. While she’s recently been enjoying a polling surge, some analysts are calling it a “Harris Honeymoon,” suggesting the results might not accurately represent the competitive nature of the race.
After recent polls from Fox News showed Harris narrowly ahead in Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada, Trump’s campaign released a memo criticizing the network’s polling credibility based on past inaccuracies, particularly in 2020.
The polls reveal Harris leading by 1 or 2 points in those states, while Trump has a slight edge in North Carolina. Given the 3-point margin of error, both candidates are statistically neck and neck.
“If I were on Harris’s side, I would warn her that Trump might actually be ahead by a bit,” said Anthony Scaramucci in an interview. He emphasized the need for Harris to intensify her efforts in battleground areas to potentially put Trump on the defensive.
Scaramucci added that trust issues with traditional institutions among Trump supporters could skew polling results, impacting their accuracy.
Despite his association with Trump, Scaramucci has praised Harris since her campaign launch, noting her impressive performance in recent interviews.
She has presented herself as an “underdog” in the 2024 race, rallying her supporters with a reminder that hard work will be essential in this tight contest, “Don’t pay attention to polls, we are the underdog. Hard work is for workers,” Harris declared during a rally.
As of Friday evening, FiveThirtyEight’s polling average indicates that Harris is leading Trump by 3.4 percentage points nationwide.
