Conservative lawyer George Conway, known for his critiques of Donald Trump, hinted that Trump may have influenced Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s impending exit from the 2024 presidential race.
According to a report from ABC News on Wednesday, Kennedy, who is running as an independent, is expected to suspend his campaign soon and endorse Trump. Anonymous sources confirmed this news to both CNN and Politico.
This development comes on the heels of reports that Kennedy, a lifelong Democrat and the nephew of former President John F. Kennedy, sought a meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris earlier this month to discuss a potential role in her future administration in exchange for his endorsement, as indicated by The Washington Post. Earlier in July, he reportedly discussed a similar arrangement with Trump, but no deal was finalized.
On X, formerly Twitter, Conway quipped, “I guess Trump was the highest bidder,” in response to the unfolding situation.
In a recent CNN interview, Trump expressed openness to offering Kennedy a role in his administration if he chose to withdraw from the race, stating, “I like him a lot, and I respect him a lot.” He added that he would be honored to receive Kennedy’s endorsement.
On the same day, Kennedy shared his willingness to engage with leaders from any political party to advance the goals he has championed for decades. His focus areas include addressing chronic diseases, curbing military engagement, reducing corporate influence in government, and tackling environmental pollution.
Kennedy’s press secretary, Stefanie Spear, further stirred speculation about his future, announcing that Kennedy plans to “address the nation live on Friday about the present historical moment and his path forward.”
While insiders told ABC News that decisions regarding Kennedy’s campaign are still pending, he remained tight-lipped when asked directly about endorsing Trump, saying, “I will not confirm or deny that. We are not talking about any of that.”
