When it comes to reacting to guilty verdicts, Hunter Biden and Donald Trump couldn’t be more different. While Trump questioned the justice system, Biden showed gratitude to his family for their support.
In a Wilmington courtroom, Hunter Biden was composed as the jury convicted him on three felonies: making false statements to a gun seller, during a firearm transaction, and possessing a weapon while being a drug user. As the first son of a U.S. President to be convicted on federal charges, and also the youngest, his fate was determined by the jury in just three hours.
During the trial, Hunter was accompanied by his wife, Melissa Cohen Biden, and the first lady, Jill Biden. However, Jill Biden was absent when the verdict was delivered. Potential penalties include up to 25 years in prison and fines totaling $750,000.
In 2018, Biden admitted to false statements on a federal firearm purchase form, in a case where he was accused of possessing an illegal firearm while being a drug addict.
Donald Trump, in contrast, responded more succinctly than when he himself was found guilty on all counts for falsifying records in Manhattan. He attributed his situation to retribution, blaming Judge Juan Merchan and the Democratic-leaning jurisdiction.
Trump denounced the trial, calling it “rigged by a corrupt judge,” and claimed that the venue had not been changed. Asserting that the ‘real verdict’ would come from the people on November 5, he accused Biden’s administration of targeting political opponents.
Trump vowed to fight for his innocence and his supporters, alleging collusion between the White House, Department of Justice, and other government agencies. He warned that what happened to his son could happen to anyone.
His campaign labeled Hunter Biden’s trial as a distraction from alleged crimes by the Biden family. The ex-President has yet to make any public statements.
