Jimmy Carter‘s grandson recently provided an update on the former President’s health, revealing that his condition remains unchanged from when he entered hospice care almost 18 months ago.
In an exclusive interview with Southern Living, Jason Carter mentioned that despite the passing of his wife Rosalynn last year, Jimmy Carter is still “living life to the fullest.”
Jason Carter’s statement follows a series of hospitalizations in 2023 for the 39th U.S. President, who resides in Plains, Georgia. Jimmy Carter began receiving hospice care at his Georgia home on February 20, 2023.
Jason Carter also made observations about former President George H.W. Bush’s health during a speech in Atlanta in May.
Reflecting on his grandfather’s health journey, Jason Carter shared that he initially thought the hospice stay would be short-lived, but it has turned out to be much longer, indicating that “God had different plans.”
He also mentioned the mystery of the human spirit and how it impacts his grandfather’s resilience in the face of health challenges.
Despite being America’s oldest former president, born on October 1, 1925, Jimmy Carter’s grandson affirmed his appearance of good health during a mental health conference in Atlanta.
The Carter Center, founded by the former President and First Lady in 1983, disclosed that Jimmy Carter had opted for hospice care at home and requested privacy during this challenging period.
Despite losing the 1980 elections, Jimmy Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his relentless efforts in promoting peace, democracy, human rights, and economic development worldwide.
