Kamala Harris Surpasses Joe Biden’s Best Election Odds with VP Nomination

Vice President Kamala Harris is shaping up to be a strong contender in the upcoming election, with her chances of winning now surpassing those of President Joe Biden during his campaign. As of Tuesday night, betting odds on Polymarket gave Harris a 46 percent likelihood of defeating former President Donald Trump. Currently, shares indicating a Harris victory are priced at 45.6 cents, while those betting on her defeat are at 54.5 cents.

In contrast, Biden’s peak betting odds against Trump back in April stood at 45 percent. By the time he exited the race on July 21, his odds had plummeted to just 7 percent.

Polymarket is known as the largest prediction market globally, allowing users to invest in outcomes of various events, from politics to sports. Successful bets can be redeemed for $1 per share following an event’s conclusion.

As of Monday, predictions still favored Trump over Harris, giving him a 52 percent chance of winning. Shares for Trump’s victory sat at 52 cents, while those for his potential loss were at 49 cents.

Just two weeks into her presidential campaign, Harris made a significant move by choosing Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. Walz made his first speech as vice presidential nominee in Philadelphia, quickly targeting Trump and his partner, Ohio Senator JD Vance.

“Minnesota’s strength is rooted in our values—collaboration, understanding, and community support,” Walz shared. A Nebraska native, he’s been Minnesota’s governor since 2018, and boasts a background in the Army National Guard, high school education, and sports coaching.

Continuing his critique, Walz remarked, “Trump’s perspective is a lot different than ours. He’s focused on serving himself rather than the community.”

Before Walz took the stage, Harris expressed that he is not just a role model for young people but a leader who champions freedom. She humorously likened their campaign dynamics to a high school sports match, saying, “It’s like a matchup between the varsity team and the JV squad,” pointing at Vance’s background.
