Members of Donald Trump’s MAGA movement are urging him to distance himself from controversial activist Laura Loomer, following her inflammatory remarks about Vice President Kamala Harris. One GOP ally even labeled her statements as “appalling and extremely racist.”
This backlash arose after Loomer was spotted with Trump at 9/11 memorial events while she had recently posted a racially charged comment regarding Harris on X, formerly known as Twitter. Loomer, a self-described “proud Islamophobe,” has had a turbulent history with Trump’s inner circle, particularly after reports in April 2023 suggested Trump might consider hiring her, which did not materialize.
During her recent social media outburst, Loomer mocked Harris’s Indian heritage by suggesting the White House would “smell like curry” if she won, leading to a strong response from Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. Greene condemned Loomer’s remarks as antithetical to Republican values, stating, “This does not represent President Trump,” and called for her comments to be removed.
Greene also shared her personal grievances with Loomer, claiming a friendship had soured after Loomer became critical of her. Other Trump supporters echoed Greene’s sentiments, with Willie J. Montague expressing that Loomer’s actions were “disgusting” and should be stopped.
Criticism also came from Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who highlighted Loomer’s toxic history and previous harmful comments about Kellyanne Conway’s daughter. Loomer, however, responded defiantly on X, stating, “I do not work for President Trump. I do not work for anyone, actually.”
Trump has praised Loomer in the past, calling her “the great Laura Loomer,” but the question remains whether he will heed the calls from his allies to cut ties with her. While some supporters leapt to Loomer’s defense, calling her a dedicated activist, many in the party seem to believe her comments are damaging.
